Cristina Lambert, a 32-year veteran in the telecom industry in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, was named president and chief executive officer of Puerto Rico Telephone in 2003 when Verizon Communications had a controlling stake in the company. Following the acquisition of PRT by América Móvil S.A. de C.V. in March of 2007, she entered into a management agreement with the new company for one year, followed by a consulting agreement until the present. Lambert has been involved in 5 mergers and acquisitions during her telecom careers and credits her ability to manage change, to work in various corporate and ethnic cultures and to lead an organization during times of uncertainty, for her success during the various transitions.
In her current role, she is supporting AML, a Mexico based company and it’s new PRT president in adapting to US regulations, local government, labor and business environment. Puerto Rico telephone is the largest full-service telecommunications provider, with more than $1,000 million in annual revenues and serving more than 1.5 million fixed, wireless, broadband, Internet and long distance customers. Her leadership and strategic vision have been instrumental in positioning the company for sustainable and profitable growth at a time when the industry is undergoing a transformation driven by convergence, entrance of new competitors in the telecom sector, the steady growth of Voice over IP technology, the evolution from narrowband to broadband, and an ever-increasing demand for the full range of wireless services. During her distinguished career, Lambert has been voted one of the most successful Hispanic women in the U.S., honor the Latina Style Magazine 50 Report has bestowed upon her four consecutive times since 2001. She was also recognized in 2005 as one of Puerto Rico’s Top 10 Business Leaders, selected by readers of business weekly CARIBBEAN BUSINESS. As a community service advocate, Lambert has served on several educational, economic development and non-profit boards, such as U.S. Telecom Association, Alianza para el Desarrollo de Puerto Rico, SER de Puerto Rico (known in the U.S. as Easter Seals), TELPRI, PRT, Coqui.net, Datacom and PRTLD corporate boards. Lambert began her telecommunications career in 1974 with Contel. Throughout her career, she has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in the key areas of the business such as sales, marketing and operations, as well as corporate positions in Regulatory Affairs, Finance and Human Resources. A native of Panama, Lambert resides in Dorado, Puerto Rico with her husband Jim. The couple has 5 children and 10 grandchildren who reside in the U.S. She earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Indiana University and an M.B.A. from Indiana Wesleyan University.
