Rector, Universidad del Turabo

Dr. Dennis Alicea Rodríguez was appointed Chancellor of the Universidad del Turabo (UT) in May 1993, becoming the sixth chancellor of this higher learning institution. He has a Bachelor in Arts (Magna Cum Laude) with a major in Political Science and Philosophy of the University of Puerto Rico, a Master in Philosophy (Summa Cum Laude) with specialization in Philosophy of Science and Epistemology of the University of Puerto Rico and a Ph.D. in Philosophy with specialization in Philosophy of Science and Epistemology of Brown University.

As Chancellor, he has endeavored to carry out projects to improve the quality of life of the university and the community at large. Among these we can highlight the creation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the municipalities of Caguas, Gurabo, and the UT. This agreement comprises several projects that contribute significantly to the welfare of the region. Some of them are: the creation of the Turabo Community Sports Complex, the Employment Center, the affiliation of the University with the Smithsonian Institution and, more recently, the development of the Iniciativa Tecnológica Centro Oriental (INTECO). Dr. Alicea has created new academic offerings, which have positioned the UT as the educational institution of higher growth and development in Puerto Rico. His commitment to culture has led him to promote the work of artists, especially those in the Turabo Valley whose quality of work transcends national boundaries. In September 2004, he inaugurated the new premises of the Museum and Center for Humanistic Studies Dr. Josefina Camacho de la Nuez, which has become a cultural and educational center for various sectors of the community. In November 2010, he presented his first book, "Los Rostros de la Crítica" which is a collection of philosophical essays.
